LEQUIO

During the Age of Discovery, the Ryukyu Islands were called ' Lequio' in Portuguese.

Despite Okinawa’s status as a small island nation, the Okinawa-born brand LEQUIO has a legacy of spanning the oceans and sharing its own unique culture while incorporating cultural influences from various nations, due to its strong connections with other countries.

The concept of LEQUIO is "manufacturing that transcends, and is passed down through, generations", paying homage to the skills and ideas of those who came before. Like their Okinawan ancestors of the past who prospered through trade with foreign lands, LEQUIO passes on culture, technology and aesthetics in a modern format. Many of their products are created through patterns using trial and error at the brand’s own studio.

LEQUIO is also currently engaged in the cultivation of Ryukyu indigo, with the aim of developing environmentally friendly products and understanding the characteristics of the dye through its production.

“We dye our tried-and-tested products with Ryukyu indigo that we have grown ourselves, and thus, have a full understanding of.”

This philosophy underpins the top-quality products that LEQUIO aims to deliver.

LEQUIO’s approach is rooted in the tradition onal Japanese culture of "hand-me-downs". The things that are handed down from parents to children from generation to generation not only show the importance of taking good care of things, but also contain a message that is handed down and passed on through generations. LEQUIO is definitely a brand to keep an eye on as they aim to create objects that fit seamlessly into daily life, objects that are free and beautiful, and that can be handed down from one generation to the next.
