Bottega Veneta was founded in 1966 in Vicenza, Veneto, Italy. The brand name means “Veneto workshop”.

Rooted in the traditions and skills of craftsmen from the Veneto region, the brand produces a wide range of leather goods such as bags and shoes, as well as clothing, accessories and furniture. As the name “workshop” implies, the products are handmade by artisans, and the carefully crafted leather is described by some as feeling like silk. Bottega Veneta products, which make the most of leather's characteristic of becoming smoother the more you use it, have gained many fans around the world.

In addition to quality, Bottega Veneta's simple and innovative designs with minimal use of logos are also popular, as the company's philosophy, "When your initials are enough," shows its confidence in its products.

Bottega Veneta's design is, above all, “intrecciato”. Intrecciato is Italian for “weave” or “mesh”, and is a technique that requires time and skill to weave strips of leather together.

The brand uses soft leather, which is particularly difficult to process, and it takes two craftsmen, two days to weave the leather for one of the brand's iconic CABAT tote bags. Made without lining, the beautiful pattern can be enjoyed on both the inside and outside of the bag.

Intrecciato is used not only for bags, but also for a variety of other items such as wallets, small cases and accessories. Not only limited to leather, Bottega Veneta has recently introduced products made of nylon and other materials as well.

Bottega Veneta underwent a transformation in 2001, when Tomas Maier was appointed creative director.

Maier, who had previously worked as a designer for Hermès and Sonia Rykiel, revamped the design and colors of the brand, introducing new shiny materials to the traditional intrecciato range. He also launched a product line using non-leather materials such as nylon, beads and cotton, propelling Bottega Veneta to its current position as a leading luxury brand.
