Nowadays, there is no one who has not heard of the famous brand, Louis Vuitton.
It began back in 1854, when Mr. Louis Vuitton opened the world's very first “travel suitcase shop” in Paris at 4 Rue Neuve-des-Capucines. At the time, most boxes for traveling had round lids, but Louis developed a flat-lidded suitcase, which meant it could be stacked. He also used new materials to create a unique range of cases that were appealing to many people, being both robust and lightweight.
In 1886 Louis’s successor, Georges Vuitton, developed a revolutionary system of locks with two spring- loaded buckles that turned a travel suitcase into a secure safe. This lock system is still in use today.
A couple years later in 1888, the "Damier" was created as a countermeasure against the Louis Vuitton imitations that were circulating at the time. But when imitations of even that design began to appear, Georges created the “Monogram” in 1896 which lead to the development of the iconic product design that is still popular today.
Fast forward to 1997 and Louis Vuitton, now considering entering the ready-to-wear clothing market, brought in Marc Jacobs and started developing apparel and shoes.
It was thus that Louis Vuitton moved from luxury bags to luxury fashion, and continue to be a global brand that surpasses all others.
